Inbound marketing techniques must conform to consumers' buying habits.
Inbound marketing strategy must match customers’ buying habits.

An effective inbound marketing strategy is necessary to conform to consumers’ changing buying habits. People no longer have to wait for you to send them information. They now have Google to find whatever information they need or products they want to buy.

An inbound marketing strategy can utilize many forms to create brand awareness, but all of them have important building blocks or characteristics for it to be successful in attracting new business.

Web Design Tips: Using Color in Web Design

Color in web design can impact the site's popularity.
Color in web design can impact brand identity and business personality.

In a study called “Impact of Color on Marketing”, researchers found that people make up their minds within 90 seconds of their initial interactions with people or products. This study further revealed that up to 90 percent of these decisions are based on color alone.

Let’s explore some web design tips that show how using color in web design can be important.

Color in web design may be perceived differently

There is a lot of discussion about the psychology of color as it relates to consumer persuasion. There have been numerous attempts to classify consumer responses to different colors, which include:

  • Blue – The exact shade of blue used in website design will impact how your site is perceived. Dark blues show strength and reliability and are excellent for corporate sites. Bright blues can be refreshing and reflect energy. Light blues reflect a relaxed and calm feeling.
  • Green – Green is a reserved down-to-earth color. It is a very stable color to reflect stability and growth. Darker shades are good to appeal to an affluent audience. Brighter shades of green reflect more energy. Olive green colors are great for sites related to nature.
  • Red – Traditionally, the color red reflects warning or danger. It can be used effectively as an accent color to show power or passion. This color can become overwhelming if it is used too much in your website design.

Web Design by Ken supports domestic violence awareness.

Using very strong colors in web design will drive your older visitors away. Younger visitors may be attracted to more fashionable colors, at least temporarily. Using color in web design must take into account your site’s readability. It must be designed to be user-friendly by young visitors, older visitors, and the visually impaired.

Quality Web Content Will Make or Break Your Business

Quality web content gets noticed.
Web design with quality web content gets noticed.

Would it surprise you to know that web designers and web content writers view quality web content differently? The designer is more interested in the structure of the site, its navigation, and optimizing it so search engines will index it quickly. The content writer is more concerned about delivering the type of unique quality content that people can digest easily. They demand content that is read, linked to, and shared.

Let’s look at a few ways quality website content can help make or break your business.

Importance of Brand Identity When Building a Customer Base

Brand identity is web design first impression.

Even though everything is more convenient today than ever, people seem to have less time to do the things that need doing. As a result, it is often the outward visual brand identity that catches the eyes of consumers. Many times people form perceptions about a company before they even know who it is or what they do.

It is essential that your visual presence differentiate your brand effectively. In order for your brand’s identity to present a true individualized personality, it must be well-defined, consistent, and centered around creating an emotional connection with your target audience.

Let’s explore some of the critical elements of brand identity when building a customer base.

Visual brand identity is a small component that produces the first impression

Even though your visual brand identity is only a small component of your overall brand, it is the first image formed in the minds of potential customers. The first impression visitors form of your business website or the first article they read on your blog will determine their potential interest in what you do.

10 Basic Tips to Design a More Usable Website [Infographic]

This infographic contains more text that some designers would allow. I feel that creative and informative infographics are much more than a string of charts and bar graphs scattered on the page.

A well designed infographic can be a data visualization, information design, or a narrative. It would be very difficult to design an infographic outlining an event from history with bar graphs and pie charts. Sometimes text is necessary, but I agree, it shouldn’t be an essay. We must think outside the box and present our great ideas in a way that makes sense to the average person.

Creating Infographics With Pizzazz [Infographic]

Charts and bar graphs certainly have their place in certain types of infographics, but proper infographic design is far more than that. Infographics must be tailored for a specific audience and they must present a visual interpretation of useful and relevant information. They must start with a great idea and focus on a story that is clean and simple.

Infographics With a Splash of Color [Infographic]

The colors of infographics are important to not only make the visual presentation appealing, but also to define the focus of the infographic. Infographics are a fantastic way of turning boring or complex information into a simplified visual presentation. Since consumers make most of their important buying decisions based of visual appearance, it is important to get the colors of infographics right.

9 Important Steps to Effective Home Page Design [Infographic]

Effective home page design must begin with a clear goal or purpose for the website. When visitors enter a website they normally start scanning from the top left. Their eyes then move to the right and then down the web page. A common mistake made in home page design is to include widgets and other elements that have nothing to do with the real purpose of the website. It is best to only include those web elements that contribute to the usability of the web site.

Web Design Process: Things to Expect

Web design process.
Your thoughts and ideas transformed into a user-friendly business website.

My goal in small business website design is to take your thoughts and ideas and transform them into an attractive website that is both user and search engine friendly. After all, your website will represent your company to thousands of online visitors and you only get one chance to make a good first impression.

You probably have questions, so I’ve put together some things you should expect during the web design process.

Quality Website Design Begins With An Open Line Of Communication

In order for us to design a small business website that truly reflects the purpose and personality of your business, we have to get to the heart of your business. This initial phase requires a lot of questions. We have to nail down exactly what makes your business different and better than the others in your industry.

We will send you a questionnaire requesting necessary business information. If you already have an existing logo, we’ll need that. We will need a high-resolution image of the logo (300 dpi) or the original artwork files. We may also need several quality photos of your products or services or jobs completed.

During Website Design We’ll Need Your Feedback

We want you to be satisfied with every step of your website design process, so we will ask for feedback from time to time. We ask that you provide timely feedback and we promise to do the same for you. We value your opinion and will always be honest with you about your website design. If we feel that something isn’t going to work well on your site, we’ll tell you.

TN Web Design: Writing Effective Web Copy

Effective web copy makes the right connections.
Great web design must have effective web copy.

Writing effective web copy can be difficult and even frustrating at times. As you stare at the cursor on a blank screen, you may be trying to figure out just what type of content will catch readers’ attention and keep them interested in your website. The real secret to writing compelling web copy is to write for your ideal reader. Once you understand some simple characteristics of quality web copy, it becomes clear what you should write and how you should write it.

Write for audience first, search engines last

It’s impossible to write compelling web copy without understanding the needs of your target audience. People read web copy differently than they read printed materials, like magazines or newspapers. Your online audience will “scan” for information. This is where eye-catching titles and sub-headings become important to your online visibility.
